James Edward Haney, son of the late Walter Lee Haney and Vida Verlean Smith Haney, was born December 24, 1933 in Larkin, Arkansas. He departed this life April 9, 2015 in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 17 days. He was united in marriage to Geraldine Smith May 24, 1957 in Melbourne, Arkansas and to this union two sons were born. James served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was employed at Boeing Aircraft in Melbourne, retiring after 20 years of employment. He was of the Church of Christ faith and a member of Melbourne Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years: Geraldine Haney of the home; two sons and two daughters-in-law: Rick and Peggy Haney and Randy and Christie Haney all of Violet Hill; one brother: Glen Haney of Wentachee, Washington; one sister: Margaret Ann Felton of Melbourne; four grandchildren: Leslie Ross and husband Mark of Ash Flat, Mandy Ward and husband John of Conway, Luke Haney of Violet Hill and Brett Haney of Conway; four great grandchildren: Madie Ross, Hadley Ross, Parker Haney and Karsyn Ward and a host of other relatives and many good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Howard Memorial Funeral Chapel in Melbourne with Danny Brightwell officiating. Burial will be at Old Philadelphia Cemetery under the direction of Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Melbourne. Visitation will be Friday, April 10, 2015 fro 6-8 p.m.

Geraldine Smith Haney

Geraldine Smith Haney, daughter of the late Robert Hanley Smith, Sr and Dimple Hutchins Smith Tyree, was born July 20, 1939 in Twin Creek, Arkansas. She departed this life August 16, 2019 in Melbourne, Arkansas at the age of 80 years and 27 days. She was united in marriage to James Edward Haney May 24, 1957 in Melbourne, Arkansas and together they raised two sons. Geraldine spent her life as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, homemaker and friend. During her working years, she was employed at Baxter Lab, White River Shirt Company and as a seamstress for Lamb’s. She was of the Church of Christ faith and a member of Melbourne Church of Christ.

Geraldine is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law: Rick and Peggy Haney and Randy and Christie Haney all of Violet Hill; three brothers: Jim Smith of Fayetteville; Charles Smith and wife Sherry of Melbourne, John Smith and wife Joyce of Mountain View; one sister: Alene Stevens of Rogers; four grandchildren: Leslie Ross and husband Marty of Ash Flat; Mandy Thomas and husband Maverick of Conway, Luke Haney of Batesville and Brett Haney of Violet Hill; six great grandchildren: Madie Ross, Hadley Ross, Parker Haney, Karsyn Ward, Asher Haney and Luther Thomas and a host of other relatives and many good friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother: R. H. Smith and a half sister: Florine Knowles.

Visitation and funeral service will be Monday, August 19 at Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Melbourne. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Danny Brightwell officiating. Burial will be at Old Philadelphia Cemetery with Ryan Lloyd officiating.

Memorials may be made to: Old Philadelphia Cemetery Maintenance, C/O Betty McCollum, P. O. Box 176, Melbourne, Arkansas.
