*Obituary
Virgil Roberson Cochran, 89, recently of Little Rock, passed away December 8, 2007. He was born March 3, 1918 in Texarkana, Arkansas, where he resided most of his life. He was the son of Charles Martin Cochran and Bertha Virginia Cross.
He was married for 69 years to his lifelong love, Lucille Sims Cochran, also of Texarkana.
He had a long and successful career as general manager of Bailey Plumbing Supply, which later became Moore Supply Co. He was well known and respected in the wholesale plumbing business, both regionally and nationally.
He was a proud member of "The Greatest Generation" and served in World War II in the South Pacific with the Army Air Corps. His life was devoted to God, Family and Country.
In Texarkana, he and Lucille were very active in Beech Street First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Director and teacher of juniors, and later was director of the Adult Department.
He was also an avid sports fan and especially devoted to two Razorback teams: the one in Fayetteville, but also the Texarkana, Arkansas High School Razorbacks. Beating Texas, either on the high school or collegiate level, was a source of great pleasure.
For five years, Virgil and Lucille lived in Hot Springs where they were also very active in the First Baptist Church, and he was a member of the Lions Club. They recently became residents of Parkway Village and joined Immanuel Baptist Church in Little Rock.
He had a great love for and commitment to his family and was involved in activities with his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Mack McLarty, as well as his grandsons, his granddaughter-in-law and his great-granddaughter. Even though he lost his sight 20 years ago, he continued to enjoy and be engaged in life and activities with his church, friends and family. He very much enjoyed his trips to Washington, D.C. to visit his daughter and son-in-law, which included concerts at the Kennedy Center, and he took a particular pride in a visit last year to the World War II Memorial.
He is survived by his wife Lucille Sims Cochran, daughter **** Donna McLarty and son-in-law Mack McLarty**** grandson Mark Cochran McLarty; grandson Franklin Hesterly McLarty and his wife Gabriela; great-granddaughter Brianna McLarty; sister Ruth Cochran of Texarkana; two nieces, Virginia Lou Mitchell and Carolyn Thrash of Ashdown; and a nephew Bobby Brown of Austin, Texas.
