ROGERS — Leon Charles Smith, age 80, of Rogers died Jan. 3, 2014, at his home. He was born in Van Buren, Ark., on June 9, 1933, to the late Leonard and Jewell (Wishon) Smith.

Leon served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star and received the Purple Heart twice. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1971 and worked for R&S Sheet Metal in Bentonville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Melba Smith; and two sisters, Cecil Sewson and Ruth Parks.

Survivors include his son, Michael Smith and wife, Melody, of Lowell; brother, William Smith of California; sister-in-law, Thelma Russell of Bentonville; grandchildren, Travis Smith, Tessa Smith, Trisha Smith and Trey Smith; niece, Connie Bell; great-nephew, Nathan Bell; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday in the Rollins Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Benton County Memorial Park.
