September 29, 1833 - July 9, 1922

Husband of Lydia Ann Chenoweth McElhaney
Madison County Record, Huntsville, Arkansas, Thursday, 13 July 1922

Wiley McElhaney, age nearly 90 years died Sunday morning at his home in this city and his remains were interred in the Huntsville Cemetery at 2:30 o’clock Monday afternoon. Funeral services having been conducted at the Christian Church by V. S. Cannon of Haskell, Oklahoma. Senility of several months duration, complicated with an acute attack of dysentery, was the cause of his death.

The deceased was born September 29, 1833, near Aurora and spent his entire life in this county. He had resided in Huntsville about 25 years. Mr. McElhaney was esteemed as one of the best citizens of the county and was a recognized leader in the Christian Church, being an elder in that organization since 1886. He continued in the ministerial work until failing health compelled him to retire, but loyalty to his faith and zeal for the progress of the church characterized him to the end. These attributes, together with his conceptions of upright citizenship, were fittingly spoken of by Mr. Cannon, who returned to conduct the funeral service in compliance with the request of the deceased made when Mr. Cannon moved from Huntsville to Oklahoma a few years ago.

Mr. McElhaney had no children and the only immediate relative surviving him is his aged wife, to whom, it is understood, he left all of his estate to be disposed of by her as she chooses. There are numerous other relatives in his county and in other states, some of whom were present at the funeral but the Record was unable to get the names of all.
