Arlis Leverette Coger, 83, of 305 Parks Street, Huntsville, Ark., died Sept. 20, 1991, at his home. He was born Oct. 6, 1907, at Huntsville, the son of Ira Monroe and Minna Lee "Lela" Presley Coger. He was a registered pharmacist for more than 60 years and had served as U.S. Postmaster at Huntsville. He developed and operated the first water works in Huntsville during the 1930s and was founder of the Trail of Tears museum. He helped to organize the American Crossbow Association and had been active in many community projects over the years. He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Huntsville. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Jessie Lucille Hawkins Coger, and by his second wife, Mrs. Anna Elizabeth Butts Coger. He was also preceded in death by one brother, James Frank Coger, and by one sister, Mrs. Mary Letha Bell.

Survivors include three sons, Richard Coger and Charles E. Coger, both of Huntsville, and James Kay Coger of Wipiti, Wyo.; two daughters, Mrs. Carol Lynn Spurlock of Huntsville and Mrs. Doris Ann Kisor of Fayetteville; two sisters, Dr. Leslie Irene Coger of Springfield, Mo., and Mrs. Imogene Northcutt of Huntsville; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home with the Rev. Ben Anderson and the Rev. Michael Gordon officiating. Interment was in the Huntsville Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Tim Hammack, Rick Evans, Jamie Sparks, Steven Bowen, Jim Coger, Randy Coger, Ricky Coger, Jim Alan Spurlock and John Coger. Honorary pallbearers were Gerald Warren, Jim Hargis, Hill Everett, Floyd Roberts and Otto Grubbs.
