R. F. Jay died at his home in the city at 8 o'clock Monday night of pneumonia. The funeral services, conducted by Revs Presley and Wiley at the home at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday were attended by a large concourse of sympathizing friends who also accompanied the remains to the Huntsville cemetery were interment was made under the auspices of the Knights of Pythias. All the business houses of the city were closed during the funeral hours and the public school was dismissed for the entire afternoon. Robert Franklin Jay was born in Huntsville November 18, 1857 and spent his entire life here. He was the son of James A. Jay one of the first settlers of this community, and was a brother a postmaster W.R. Jay. On December 1, 1887 he was united in marriage to Miss Maggie Gilliland and by whom, together with their two children, a son and a daughter, he is survived. For a number of years deceased was prominently identified with Huntsville's commercial interest, being a member of the firm of Guinn & Jay, dealers of hardware and furniture, and he was also a vice-president of the First National Bank.
