Herbert Eugene Woodson, 87, of Fordyce died Friday March 23, 2018 at his home. Born February 11, 1931 at Amity, he was a son of the late E.S. Woodson and Laura A. Lively Woodson.
Herb was an Air Force veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was an active member of Fordyce First United Methodist Church where he started a soup kitchen and food pantry, and put in the stained glass windows in the new church addition. He was also a Methodist lay minister, serving at several churches. He worked in construction, was a school counselor, coach, teacher school board member and avid gardener. He owned and operated Herb's Restaurant and was a teacher at the Fordyce Adult Education Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and three sisters; and a son-in-law, Jim Mitchell. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Woodson of Fordyce; two sons, Lawrence Russell Woodson (Tanya) of Jarreau, LA, William Randolph Woodson (Susan) of Raleigh, NC. ; two daughters, Laura Alice Woodson Mitchell of Fordyce, Angela Lynn Woodson Gober of Thornton; nine grandchildren, Layla Rae Woodson Dupuy, Amy Elizabeth Woodson Lanier, Samantha O'Connor, Patrick Wynne Woodson, Chloe Jane Woodson, Matthew Thomas Mitchell, John Russell Mitchell, William Casey Gober, Lawrence Caleb Gober; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday March 29, 2018 at Fordyce First United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to the Fordyce First United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce. To sign the online register visit www.bentonfuneralhome.net.
