Oramae passed away peacefully on June 28th at the age of 103.
Oramae was a long time resident of San Leandro. She was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on November 2, 1915. She grew up with her beautiful, older sister, who later died. She eventually migrated to the Bay Area. She was married for a short time but later divorced. She never had any children. She later went to work for a company in Oakland as a Bookkeeper for many years.
Throughout her life she enjoyed many of her lifelong friends, ballroom dancing, a love for animals, especially cats. She enjoyed going to Neptune Beach in Alameda and just hanging out, enjoying the outdoors. She was a free-spirit type of person. She also belonged to a Baptist Church in Alameda and attended every Sunday. She always made it a point to visit with her friends afterwards. Oramae also developed an interest in ballroom dancing and began attending the Mastick Senior Center in Alameda for lessons. It was there, where she met one of her lifelong friends, Joanne Lindsey, who was one of the dance instructors. Joanne had a gentleman friend, Wallace Johnson, who also became another lifelong friend of Oramae’s and always made it a point to check on her to make sure she was ok. Another lifelong friend of Oramae’s was Shelly Chamberlin who also made sure Oramae was taken care of throughout the years. Shelly’s mother was one of Oramae’s mother’s friends.
Oramae is preceded in death by her older sister and her mother, Elizabeth Childs.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation in honor of Oramae on Thursday, July 11, 2019 from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. and the funeral service on Friday, July 12, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Greer Family Mortuary and Cremation Services. Following the services, Oramae will be flown to Arkansas and laid to rest next to her mother’s grave.
