James Harold “Jigs” Cannon, age 90, a resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas, died Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at Nashville Nursing and Rehab. He was born May 26, 1924, in De Queen, Arkansas.
James served in the US Navy during World War II, was a graduate of Ouachita Baptist University, attended South Western Baptist Seminary in Ft. Worth, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lockesburg. He was a beloved pastor at State Line Baptist, Cerro Gordo; Kern Heights, De Queen; Lockesburg First Baptist; Parkway Baptist Church, Houston, Mississippi and retired as Director of Missions, Little River Baptist Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Henry and Minnie Parkerson Cannon; three brothers, Willie Gene, Charles and Sydney Cannon; three sisters, Verna Smith, Louise Allen and Virginia Cannon; and a half-brother, F.L. Hart.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma Priest Cannon; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ella and Darrell Ward of Idabel, Oklahoma and Linda and Michael Quinn of Lockesburg; one son, Mark Cannon of Eola, Texas; five grandchildren, Brandon Tomlinson and wife Angie of Idabel, Wendy Gammon and husband Matt of Genoa, Arkansas, Jeremy Whisenhunt of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Jonathan Whisenhunt of Lockesburg and Hayden Ward of Idabel; one sister, Magel House of De Queen; 4great-grandchildren, Victoria Gibbs, Emilee Tomlinson, Cole and Lindsey Gammon; one special sister-in-law, Melba Priest; two step-granddaughters, Elizabeth Longacre and Alexis Ward; one step-grandson, Jared Quinn and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Bro. Cannon will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday April 25, 2015, in First Baptist Church, Lockesburg with Rev. Roy Gene Brooks and Dr. David Blasé officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery,
