September 23, 1876 - April 5, 1955
John B. Cathey, age 78, of 404 Cash Road, died in the Ouachita County Hospital at 10:20 a.m. Tuesday. Mr. Cathey was born in Bryson City, North Carolina September 25, 1876. He has been living in Camden for the past 22 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Camden. Mr. Cathey formerly lived at Bearden. Survivors include four daughters; Mrs. Grady Rogers of Lawton, Oklahoma, Mrs. Jerry Musselman of Anderson, Indiana, Miss Helen , and Mrs. Al Poindexter both of Camden; seven sons, Claude of Crossett, Nolen of Stillwater, Okla., Marcus of Camden, Major Harris Cathey and Captain Francis Cathey, both of the U. S. Army stationed in France. John B. Jr, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Sam Cathey of Saginaw, Michigan; one sister, Mrs. Forest McCracken of Bryson City, N.C.; and one brother, Hillman Cathey of Smackover; and by 16 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 o'clock Thursday at First Baptist Church by Dr. T. L. Harris. Burial will be in Salem cemetery near Bearden by Proctor Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be Bill Smead, Van Mosley, M. W. Benton, Frank Hagy, Everett Bearden and Ed Pace. The body will remain at Proctor's chapel until 1 p.m. Thursday when it will be taken to the church. (Camden News - April 6, 1955)
