ELKINS — Byron Warford, 84, of Elkins died Sept. 5, 1995, at his home. He was born Aug. 2, 1911, on Delaney Creek in Madison County to Alley and Virdie Lee London Warford. He was a retired blacksmith and gunsmith. Pieces of his blacksmith work have been on display at the Smithsonian Institute since the late 1960s. He was a lifetime member and supporter of the National Rifle Association of America. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Winfred, Elmer, Raymond and William (Wig) Warford; two grandchildren, Janet Louise Baxter and Kevin Warford and two great-grandchildren, Jason David Barron and Brandy Nicole Harvey.

Survivors include his wife, Lona Bell Long Warford of the home, to whom he was married 59 years; five sons, Norman Jewel Warlord of Sunnyside, Wash., Willis Bryon (Sonny) Warford of Baldwin, Raymond Dewey Warford of West Fork and Johnny Lee Warford and Garret Wayne Warford, both of Elkins; five daughters, Geraldine Coleman of Fayetteville, Lena Lee (Jo) Hankins of East Wenatchee, Wash., Wilda Jean Kellar of Springdale and Dollie Bell Black and Mildred Rose Coker, both of Fayetteville; two brothers, Sam Warford of Crosses and Lester Warford of Wenatchee; two sisters, Alice Pelfrey of Crosses and Nell Carter of Elkins; 39 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Nelson's Funeral Home of Fayetteville with the Rev. Ray Shackelford and John Clinton Layton officiating. Burial will be in McCord Cemetery at Elkins.

Pallbearers will be Donnie Coleman, Junior Warford, Danny R. Warford, Danny W. Warford, Scott Eiland, Aaron Coker, Greg Eiland and Charles Baxter.

Honorary pallbearers will be Wes Hankins, Charles Coleman and Jackie Coleman.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
