Charles P. Byars, aged 98, of Bearden died in the Ouachita County Hospital at 1:47 a.m. Thursday. Mr. Byars, a retired farmer had lived in Calhoun and Ouachita counties all of his life. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Mr. sand Mrs. Byars would have been married 76 years on Feb. 27. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sue James Byars; three sons, Charles E. Byars of Locust Bayou, James Clark Byars of Bearden and Elmer Byars of Magazine; three daughters, Miss Alice Byars and Mrs. Maude Vaughan of Bearden and Mrs. Bula Hunger of Palestine, Texas; 15 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Salem Baptist Church near Bearden. Burial will be in Salem cemetery by Proctor Funeral Service. The body will lie in state at the Funeral Home until funeral time. (Camden News - February 3, 1966)
