Obituary:
Mary Louise Murphy, 91 of Magnolia, Arkansas passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at her home in Magnolia.
She was born on August 13, 1919 in Austin, Texas to the late Thomas Battle and Marguerite (Thompson) Westbrook. She was a graduate of the University of Texas, the founder of Murphy’s Jewelers in Magnolia, charter member of the Magnolia Junior Charity League, and advocate for many local charities and arts programs. She was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church for seventy years where she served on the Session and Diaconate Boards.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jerome P. Murphy and two brothers, Titus and Thomas Westbrook.
Mary Louise is survived by her three sons, Jerome Murphy and wife Kathy of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Patrick Murphy of Plano, Texas, Richard Murphy and wife Pam of Magnolia; one daughter, Mary Martin and husband Glenn of Magnolia; eight grandchildren, Jason and Max Murphy, Grey Murphy, Scott Martin, Stephanie Pisoni, Maggie Nelson, Patty Misenar, and Amy Booth; and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 10:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Mike Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. of Magnolia. Visitation with the family will be on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Mary’s home at 710 Partee Street in Magnolia. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 1417 North Jackson Street, Magnolia, Arkansas, 71753, or Donor’s Choice.
Pallbearers will be T.G. Connelly, Sid Moore, Mark Taylor, Bubba Smith, Pierre Boumtje, Keith DuPriest, Todd Smith, and Mike McNeill. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Downs, Cameron Dodson, Sterling Lacy, Paul Chandler, and all members of her church family. As well as the Senior Olympic Group, Mildred Ruff, Josephine Davis, Archie Monroe, Mary Harsh, and Joe Ann Schultz.
