Irma Wheeler Powell, age 91, of Hermitage, Arkansas died Sunday, June 20, at Wagnon Place Nursing Home. She was born March 23, 1913 at Ingalls, Arkansas a daughter of the late Mellie E. York and Lucy Alyce Vickers York. She received her education in the Bradley County School System and was a graduate of Arkansas A and M College-Monticello. She was a retired public school teacher for the Hermitage School System with 35 years of service, a homemaker and a member of the Hermitage Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by 2 husbands Lee Wheeler whom she married on December 4, 1931. He died on March 16, 1986. She married Harley Powell on July 27, 1991 and he died on May 2, 1999. A daughter Mary Alyce Wheeler Green, a brother Melvin York and a sister Evora Baker also preceded her in death. Surviving is a son Ronald Wheeler, Hermitage, Ark; 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 7 great great- grandchildren. Funeral services were 10:00 am Tuesday, June 22, at Frazer's Chapel with Rev. Bob Meggs and Rev. Wayman Mann officiating. Janice Sullivan was organist and soloist was Jerry Vickers. Burial was in Union Hill Cemetery at Ingalls by Frazer's Funeral Home of Warren. Active pallbearers were James Ederington, Travis Ivey, Cecil Baker, James Merle Crawford, Sonny Bethea, Bill Wright, Bobby McGhee and Jimmy Ferguson. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. James W. Marsh and Jim Cross.
