SILOAM SPRINGS - Mayo W. Selby, 95, passed away Friday, Sept. 9, 2016, in Springdale, Ark. Mayo was born July 2, 1921, in San Marcos, Texas, to Gillie Sanders and Claud Lee Selby.

The family moved to a farm between Siloam Springs and Gentry, Ark., in 1924. Mayo attended Gentry and Siloam Springs public schools and graduated from John Brown High School in December 1939. Mayo joined the U.S. Navy in April 1940 and served during World War II, retiring in 1960.

He then joined the U.S. Postal Service and served Siloam Springs as a walking mail carrier until his retirement in 1983. He was a 32nd degree Mason and enjoyed gardening, fly fishing, art framing and the Razorbacks.

Mayo married the love of his life, Emma Lou (Easterbrook) Selby in 1946. She pre-deceased him in 1999. He is survived by four children, Rebecca (Selby) Gallup and husband Max, Grove, Okla., Mayo W. Selby II and wife Debi, Siloam Springs, Ark., Chris Selby, Fayetteville, Ark., and Frances (Selby) McGhee and husband, Rusty, Tulsa, Okla.; five grandchildren, Mayo W Selby, III, of California, Matthew Anderson, Lehi, Utah, Caleb Selby and wife Jessica, Broken Arrow, Okla., Tyler McGhee and wife Amber, Fayetteville, Ark., and Gillian McGhee, Fayetteville, Ark., and three great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was also pre-deceased by a brother, Willard, and a sister, Lois.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016, at First United Methodist Church, Siloam Springs with a reception immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Siloam Springs, at a later date. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Siloam Springs or to your favorite charity.
