Sara Elizabeth Sharp Rankin Vandiver, age 98, of Albertville, Alabama, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 7, 2014. She was born November 3, 1915 in Dermott. Mrs. Vandiver served as Postmaster in Driver from 1954 until she retired in 1980. She was a faithful servant of God and attended the First Baptist Church in Osceola and the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Albertville, Alabama.
She was preceded in death by her first husband of 36 years, James Dorothy Rankin and her beloved second husband of 18 years, William Doyle Vandiver; her parents, James Earl and Celeste Heskett Sharp; her son, William Earl Rankin; her brother, James Earl Sharp and her sister, Martha Jane Sharp Brouse Myers. She is survived by her son, James D. Rankin, Jr. and wife, Nancy, of Hamburg; her daughter-in-law, Syble Lang Rankin of Albertville, Alabama; her stepdaughter, Carolyn Vandiver Pollan and husband, Corbett, of Memphis, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Robin Rankin; Elizabeth Rankin Henson and husband, Michael, all of Albertville, Alabama; James D. Rankin III and wife, Ashley, of Little Rock; Stanley Downey Rankin and wife, Stacie, of Springdale; Joshua David Rankin and wife, Valerie, of Fayetteville; Greg Pollan and wife, Terri, of Memphis, Tennessee; Brent Pollan and wife, Vicky, of Cordova, Tennessee and 13 great grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Thursday, January 9, at the Albertville Funeral Home in Albertville, Alabama.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 11 in the Dermott Cemetery with Dr. Bobby Pennington officiating.
