George Earl Griffis, 80, of Bearden died Sunday, June 24, 2012 at Pine Hills Health & Rehabilitation Center in Camden.

He was born October 2, 1931 in Waldo, Arkansas. George was retired from the Arkansas Highway Department.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William Franklin and Sarah Elizabeth Wise Griffis; daughter, Sharon Kay Griffis; eight brothers, Burral Griffis, Bill Griffis, O'Dell "Shorty" Griffis, Albert "Bo" Griffis, Edward Griffis, A.P. Griffis, Roy Eugene Griffis and Herbert "Bud" Griffis; five sisters, Mattie Lou Childers, Larue McKamie, Gladys Vick, Ruth McCoy and Janie Sue Baken.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Beard Griffis of Bearden; one daughter, Theresa Griffis of Texarkana, AR; one son and daughter-in-law, Travis and Hilda Griffis of Bearden; four sisters, Dot Steelman and husband Eugene of Camden, Carolyn Lindsey and husband Thomas of Bearden, Fadis Alexander and husband Johnnie of Bearden, Emma Lee Dean and husband W.C. "Dub" of Greenwood, LA; two sister-in-laws, Catherine Griffis of Camden and Yvonne Griffis of Michigan; three granddaughters, Tracy Griffis of Camden, Amy Ray and husband John of Bearden, Ashley Vaughan and husband Clint of Bearden; great grandson, Shaun Ray of Bearden; great granddaughters, Madison Ray, Lanee Vaughan and Libby Vaughan of Bearden; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Funeral services will be held at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce with Brother Gary Rayborn officiating. Burial at Salem Cemetery in Bearden. Arrangements by Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce/Bearden. To sign the online register visit www.bentonfuneralhome.com.
