When John Charles Berry was born on April 9, 1896, in Mayflower, Arkansas, his father, William, was 39 and his mother, Lizzie, was 35. He married Violet Belle Irby on April 29, 1919, in Faulkner, Arkansas. They had five children during their marriage. He died on June 3, 1960, in North Little Rock, Arkansas, at the age of 66, and was buried in his hometown.
