She was born January 24, 1909 in Greenwood, MS to the late George and Antonia Oswald.
Mrs. Malnar grew up in Shreveport, LA where she attended both St. Vincent and Centenary College, majoring in elementary education. She taught elementary school for 35 years and in 1971 was selected as a Leader in American Secondary Education in recognition of her contributions to the advancement of secondary education and service to her community. She was Teacher of the Year in 1972
Mrs. Malnar was preceded in death by her husband, George Leo Malnar. She is survived by her daughter, Joe Ann Hargraves and husband, Richard of Helena, two granddaughters, Mary Ann Hollowell and husband, Jay of Helena and Susanne E. Gentry and husband, Curtis of Marianna, and four great-grandchildren, Tripp Hollowell, Mary Elizabeth, Will and Grant Gentry.
