Mary Evelyn Vann, 85 of Magnolia, passed away peacefully in her home January 16, 2011 surrounded by her family. She was born January 28, 1925 in LaGrange, Texas to the late Roger and Hertha Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald, one brother Roger Smith, her son Stuart Vann, and her daughter Catherine Nichols. Mary was a unique and fun-loving lady who will be remembered with a smile by her family and many friends. Throughout her life she served in a variety of jobs from driving a city bus in Galveston, Texas during World War II to assisting the elderly at the local Area Agency on Aging. After their retirement she and her husband Don, spent many great times traveling with their friends in the “Traveling Supremes†travel club. She is survived by her sons, Ken Willhoite and wife Amanda of Emerson and John Vann and wife Ann of Magnolia; six grandchildren, Amy Hendricks of Magnolia, Sarah Collier and husband Kevin of Taylor, Matt Vann of Magnolia, Abby Vann of Magnolia, Katherine Cardwell of Stillwater, Oklahoma, John Robert Cardwell of Springfield, Missouri; and six great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 19th at 2:00 p.m. at Lewis Chapel with Bro. David Watkins officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. of Magnolia. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Jordan Bolser, Kevin Collier, Steve Moore, Evan McCrary, Matt Vann, and William Holmes. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Magnolia or to Life Touch Hospice.
