Billye G. Rowe, 87 of Magnolia, Arkansas passed away on Friday, January 7, 2011 at the John R. Williamson Hospice House in El Dorado, Arkansas.
She was born on October 16, 1923 in Macon, Georgia to the late William and Etha (Thompson) Gibson.
Billye as she liked to be called attended and worked for the Columbus High School in Columbus, Georgia. She graduated with a class of over three hundred as Valedictorian of her class.
She met her husband of sixty seven years Auby Rowe, Jr., while he was an officer with the Ft. Benning Training School. During their marriage she lived with her family in Georgia, Arkansas, North Dakota, Montana, Texas, and settled back in Arkansas. She worked as a team with her husband in the oil and gas leasing business until they retired. While her husband was an Arkansas State Representative she scheduled the pages from his district to learn how state government was run. She and her husband enjoyed researching their family tree from Georgia to Arkansas.
Billye was an avid golfer where she was a former ladies champion at the Magnolia Country Club for eight years. She was a member of the Eastern Star where she was scheduled to become the Grand Matron before moving to Arkansas. She is a member of the First United Methodist Church and was a happy and intelligent woman who dearly loved her husband, family and many friends.
She is preceded in death by her son, Timothy Allen Rowe and her daughter, Barbara Anne Rowe.
She is survived by her husband, Auby Rowe, Jr. of Magnolia; a son, Auby Rowe, III and his wife Beverly of Texarkana, Arkansas; and four grandchildren, Tyler A. Rowe and wife Camile of Mesquite, Texas, Debbie Standford and her husband Al of Flower Mound, Texas, Chris Glasscock of Georgetown, Texas, and Auby Rowe, IV and his wife Brenda of Round Rock, Texas.
Visitation with the family will be on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 1:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church Chapel with a memorial service to follow in the First United Methodist Church Sanctuary at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or charity of donor’s choice.
