SCANTLIN, Rose Emma Slavens - Rose Emma Slavens Scantlin was born in Iowa Feb. 14, 1868; died Dec. 3, 1917, aged 49 years, 8 mos., 10 days. She came to Missouri about the age of 15, married James Scantlin March 23, 1884. Eleven children were born to the union, one dying in infancy, and Carol, who died Dec. 4, 1914. The husband and 9 children survive, the latter being, Clyde of Coffeyville, Kans.; Asa, Lee, Roy, Joe, Mrs. Grace Ireland, Viola, Bertha and Lloyd of this place. All were present at the time of her death. Her sisters; Mrs. Mollie Rowden, Mrs. Flora Hunsaker and Mrs. Flossie Wright, all of Galena, Kan. Mrs. Scantlin professed religion in 1915 and lived a devoted Christian life. She was afflicted a year but was patient and was ready when the Lord called. She was beloved by her family and all who knew her. A host of friends sympathize with the family in their loss. Rev. T.F. Jones conducted the funeral and burial was made at Perkins cemetery Dec. 4.
