*Obituary
Betty Sue Meadows, 86, of Magnolia, AR. has crossed life’s finish line. She has run her race, and won.
Betty Sue was born on Jan. 7, 1925 in Sicily Island, LA to parents Quitman Otto and Mittie Bass Smith who preceded her in death. Her family moved to Magnolia while she was a small child. She attended Magnolia schools and graduated from Magnolia Agricurlture and Mechanical College with a degree in Business.
Betty Sue married Frank Meadows and mothered four sons. After several years away from Magnolia, she returned and was employed as a legal secretary for the law firm of Keith, Clegg and Eckert until her retirement. Betty Sue was not one to sit by and let others do the work. She held offices in the Quota Club as well as her Sunday school classes, the Women’s Missionary Union and other leadership positions throughout the many years she attended Magnolia Central Baptist Church. She loved music, reading, gardening and cooking for her family.
Her grandchildren describe her as strong and Godly.
“She was a compassionate and caring woman who loved people and had a fun sense of humor,” they said. “But, she was so much more than that.”
Her four sons Richard and Phillip Meadows of Magnolia, Marshall and daughter-in-law Brenda Meadows of Branson, MO, William “Bill” and daughter-in-law Shelly Meadows of Burleson, TX, survive Betty Sue. She has seven grandchildren: Meredith Meadows Hall of Lawrence, KS; Krista Meadows of Branson, MO; Maxwell “Max” Meadows of Ft. Myers, FL; Daniel Meadows, Megan Meadows, Benjamin Meadows and Abigail Meadows of Burleson, TX. She leaves behind five great-grandchildren; Thomas and Lauren Paige, Michaela Meadows-Hall, and Gabrielle Hall of Lawrence, KS. Betty Sue will be greatly missed by her Sister Marilyn and brother in-law James Reddell and niece Susan Reddell of Magnolia, AR.
Betty Sue’s life will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 14, 2011 at the Lewis Funeral Home Chapel in Magnolia, AR with Dr. Mike Seabaugh and Bro. Steve Ford officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. of Magnolia. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering in care of Central Baptist Church, 207 West Union Street, Magnolia, Arkansas 717543.
