Viet Cong Ambush Kills Benton GI

Benton - Sgt. 1c John Norman Wickliffe, 27, of Saline County; a member of the Special Forces in Vietnam, was killed in action August 3, his family here was notified Monday.

The Sergeant who had been in the Army since 1968, was killed in a Viet Cong ambush.

He was a 1968 graduate of Harmony Grove High School. His service in the Army included tours in Germany and the Far East. He had been a Green Baret for five years.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Annmarie Horwath Wickliffe; a son Robert Lynn Wickliffe of Benton; his parents, Mr. and Mrs Hugh E. Wickliffe of Benton; two brothers, Morris and Jimmy Wickliffe of Benton; and a sister, Mrs. Bernice Yeargan of Conway.
