Van Anderson Rochelle Moores Jr., age 94, of Little Rock, formerly of Russellville died Wednesday, March 20, 2019, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 14, 1924, in Russellville to Van Anderson Rochelle Moores Sr. and Eileen Allbritten Moores.

He attended Arkansas Tech in Russellville before joining the Army. He served in the China-Burma-India Theater of Operations with the Army Air Corps during WWII. Following service in WWII he graduated from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville with a degree in accounting. He was a member of Kappa Sig Fraternity. He joined his father in the family business, the retail store, The New Store in Russellville. When he closed the store in 1977, he purchased Shinn Funeral Service and ran it for several years until his retirement when he and Marilyn moved to Parkway Village in Little Rock in 2007.

Van was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Russellville, serving on the finance committee for many years. He also was a member of the Friendship Class. He was involved in the Lions Club and the Russellville Chamber of Commerce, serving as president. A strong supporter of Arkansas Tech, he was honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award.

He loved golf, bridge and travel. One of his favorite activities after moving to Little Rock was to play duplicate bridge at the Little Rock Bridge House. During his long life in Russellville, he had a regular foursome at the Russellville Country Club and two bridge groups, playing weekly games.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Alice Wepfer Moores; son, Van Anderson Rochelle Moores III; and granddaughter, Rachel Schwartz. Van is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marilyn Hartje Moores; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Ron Schwartz of Russellville and Brenda and Mike Hengel of Las Vegas, Nevada; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 23, 2019, at the Shinn Chapel with the Pastor Don Stiles officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m., in Crestlawn Memorial Park near Conway and under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the chapel. The family would like to thank caregiver Matthew Lindsey and the staff at Parkway Health Center for their care.
