Rosamond Bouhasin Zambie, 88, of Orange Park, Fla., was called home to be with the Lord on June 30, 2004. She was born in St. Louis, Mo, on April 15, 1916. There she began her career as a registered nurse. She was a graduate of Rosata Kain Academy and St. Louis City Hospital of Nursing. In 1940 she married Henry Zambie Sr. and they lived in Cleveland, Ohio for a brief time, and later moved to Helena, where she raised a family of six children.
She was actively involved as a Registered Nurse at Helena Hospital, in public health care, and in nursing education. After the death of her husband, she moved to Orange Park, Fla., where she has resided for the past 30 years. She enjoyed traveling and spent much time with family and friends throughout the U.S. and in Europe. In the Jacksonville area, she worked extensively for the Visiting Nurse Association. Her work was not just a profession but also a ministry of healing.
She was an active member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Orange Park. St. Catherine's was an integral part of her life. Her grandchildren referred to her as "Tai-tah," a name that was quickly and affectionately adopted by her extended family and her many friends. She was a woman of strong faith, a faith that sustained her through devastating losses during her last years.
Rosamond was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Zambie Sr., her daughter, Miriam Zambie Illes, and her son CDR Henry "Hank" Zambie Jr.
A funeral Mass was offered at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Orange Park, Florida Tuesday, July 6. Burial will take place on Friday, July 9, 2004 at St. Mary's Cemetery in Helena. The family will receive friends at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Helena followed by rosary. Burial will be immediately afterward.
