Shelby Ray Gillihan, 82, of Melbourne, AR, died April 1, 2010, at his home. He was born August 3, 1927 in Twin Creek, AR. He was the son of Simon Paul Gillihan and Verla May Smith Gillihan. He was united in marriage to Sharon Gay Sherrell on October 18, 1958.

He was a life-long resident of Izard County. He spent his working years logging and raising cattle. He was of the Church of Christ faith and was a member of Twin Creek Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Sharon Gillihan; a son, Paul Edward Gillihan of Atlanta, GA; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Bishop of Batesville, AR; four brothers, Boyce Gillihan, Junior Gillihan and George Gillihan, all of Melbourne, and Clifton Gillihan of Calico Rock; two sisters, Geneva Blankenship and Catherine Phipps, both of Melbourne; three grandchildren, Brittni Cherron Washington of Melbourne, and Newlon Bryce Gillihan and Liberty Alexis Gillihan, both of McComb, MS; and several nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, William "Billy" Davis Gillihan.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m., Saturday at Howard Memorial Chapel in Melbourne with Tim Woolridge and Donald Gillihan officiating.

Burial will be in Combs Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.

Pallbearers will be Jim Morrow, Randy Washington, Sonny Phipps, Jeff Gillihan, Toby Smith and Brad Wheelis.

Honorary pallbearers are Ronnie Gillihan, Shannon Dockins, Donald Gillihan, David Sherrill and Charles Smith.

Sharon Gay Sherrell Gillihan, daughter of the late Hearl Sherrell and Mildred Davis Sherrell, was born July 5, 1938 in Dry Hollow, Arkansas. She departed this life March 15, 2019 in Melbourne, Arkansas at the age of 80 years, 8 months and 10 days. She was united in marriage to Shelby Ray Gillihan October 1, 1958 and together they raised three children.

Sharon spent her life as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, homemaker and friend. Sharon was employed by the State of Arkansas most of her working career. She worked for NADC for several years and then transferred to the Revenue Office. She retired from the Revenue Office after 28 years of employment. She was of the Church of Christ faith and a member of the Twin Creek Church of Christ.

She is survived by two children: Paul Edward Gillihan and husband M. J. Of Marietta, Georgia and Mary Elizabeth Bishop and husband Torrey of Melbourne; one brother: Charles Sherrell and wife Bernice of Oxford; one sister: Dula Bryant and husband Gerold of Wheeling, Arkansas; ten grandchildren: Brittni Cherron Young and husband David of Batesville, Newlon Bryce Gillihan of McComb, Mississippi, Jeremiah Jackson-Gillihan of Marietta, Georgia, Liberty Alexis Gillihan of McComb, Mississippi, Max Jackson-Gillihan, Benjamin Jackson-Gillihan both of Marietta, Georgia, Mercy Grace Gillihan of McComb, Mississippi, T. J. Bishop of Batesville, Jordan Bishop of Melbourne, Tatum Bishop of Searcy; five bonus great grandchildren: Ty, Taylor, Evelynn, Jack and Eli; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and many good friends.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son: William Davis Gillihan and one sister: Kathy Shaw.

Visitation and funeral service will be Sunday, March 17 at Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Melbourne. Visitation begins at 1:00 p.m. Funeral service begins at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Combs Cemetery.
