When Selby Jean Craven was born on October 1, 1924, in Georgia, his father, Edward, was 25 and his mother, Minnie, was 20. He had four brothers and one sister. He died on November 29, 1967, in Merced, California, at the age of 44, and was buried in Mayflower, Arkansas.
