Kenny Wayne Collier, 50, passed away August 20, 2003, just one day short of being 51 years of age after a courageous battle with cancer. He lived in Conway, but had been a long time resident of the Oak Grove area. He was born August 21, 1952 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was educated in North Little Rock, a graduate in 1971 from Oak Grove High School and maintained close relationships with those he attended school with.
He was employed by the City of North Little Rock as the Deputy Coordinator for Emergency Services and a Fire Department Supervisor in the 9-1-1- Center for nearly 23 years. His association with life long friends, his long-term employment in the public safety field, from the employees in the 9-1-1- centers past and present, to police/fire departments and the professional networking with APCO/NENA and AEMA which are public safety organizations, he developed an array of quality friendships, among them Lee Shaw. He never met a stranger.
Kenny was an avid bass fisherman, and NASCAR enthusiast. He enjoyed being the leader in putting together all the details for “trips” to those events as well as high school reunions. He was the classic “social director”. But his most cherished role was when he became a grandfather to Karli, his only granddaughter. He was blessed with a full life, for the short time he was here. He is of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy Collier; two daughters, April Collier and Mandy Thompson and her husband, Allen, “Kenny’s special son-in-law”; granddaughter, Karli Thompson; father and stepmother, Kenneth and Jarla Collier; mother and stepfather, Joan and Robbie Suitor; sister, Marsha and Mike Brown; brother, Tommy Collier; step-sister, Sheila Halsey; step-brother, Terry Doshier, special mother-in-law, Eva Williams; grandmother, Alpha Caudle; and a special lifetime friend, David Lackey. He was preceded in death by grandmother, Mae Collier.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to UAMS and staff on 6E Premiere for the wonderful care they gave him.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday at Morgan Full Gospel Church with Rev. Bob Wickliffe, Rev. Kyle Cochran, Rev. Larry Seiferth, Sr. and Bro. Leon Troutman officiating. Burial will be at Mayflower Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main, 758-1170, online obituary and guest register www.northlittlerockfuneralhome.com.
