Lavina Justus
July 21, 1926 - June 30, 2019

Until the very end, Lavina Justus lit up the world with her beautiful smile.

Lavina was predeceased by her husband Thomas D. (Dick) Justus. She was also predeceased by her parents H. S. and Ollie Allen, brothers Glenn and Laddie Allen, brothers Brice and H.S. (who died in childhood), and sister Enid Owens.

Lavina grew up in the community of Alicia in Lawrence County and eventually moved to Light in Greene County with her husband Dick who was a farmer. She was a graduate of Harding University and an elementary school teacher for more than 20 years. One of her favorite weekly activities was combing the Times Dispatch looking for stories about her former students, often with colorful commentary about what they were like in 2nd grade. She remembered everything and everyone with humor and kindness.

Lavina made many new friends after she moved to an assisted living apartment in Little Rock a few years ago. It was an easy transition for her, and before long, she was taking care of her neighbors just as she had done in every community she lived in. She delighted in teasing the staff and they her. She was so loved that one of them named her child after her.

She leaves behind sons David (Theresa) and Mark of Light, Joe and daughter-in-law Barb of Little Rock, and daughter Ellen of Little Rock, four grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren. Many other relatives and friends mourn her loss yet celebrate her life including her sisters-in-law, beloved cousin (and partner-in-crime) Anita LeMay Smith, nephews and her nieces, especially her favorite one (you know who you are).

Paragould Children’s Home, AR Children’s Hospital, and Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance (www.arhungeralliance.org) are charities she supported if you would like to honor her in that way.
