SPRINGDALE — Gerald "G.V." Virgil Parks, 89, of Springdale, Ark., passed away on Sept. 26, 2016. He was born in Lonoke County, Ark., on Dec. 18, 1926, to Virgil and Lois Parks.

He was a retired employee of AT&T with 38 years of service. He was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Navy, enlisting in 1944. He was a member of Robinson Avenue Church of Christ and formerly served as a deacon. He loved farming and tinkering with tractors, vehicles and equipment of any kind.

Mr. Parks was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister and his wife of 46 years, Mary Alice Bryant Parks. He is survived by his children: Jerri Derlikowski of Little Rock, Doug Parks (Sue) of Springdale and Tom Parks of Inverness, Fla., one brother, Bob Parks of Beebe and one sister, Juanita Scruggs of Bentonville. He had six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be Monday, Oct. 3, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Robinson Avenue Church of Christ in Springdale with Harry Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Springdale Animal Shelter Foundation, 321 W. Randall Wobbe Lane, Springdale, Ark., 72764, to honor his longtime canine buddy, Brownie, who is 17 years old. Online condolences may be left at www.siscofuneral.com.
