Joseph Lane (JL) Jean, age 90 of Atlanta, Arkansas left for his eternal home November 1, 2017 after a lengthy struggle with several health issues. He passed away at hospice in El Dorado. His devotion to his wife and family and his love for the Lord supported him during all of his recent trials.
JL was born to Walker Clarence Jean and Anna Lena McKamie Jean on October 25, 1927. He was a fourth generation resident of the Atlanta community in Columbia County. His ancestors were among Columbia County’s earliest settlers, as all eight of his great-grandparents were residents by 1860.
JL was a graduate of Magnolia High School, attended the University of Arkansas, and graduated from Southern State University. During the Korean War he served his nation in the United States Army as a heavy equipment instructor. JL was a business owner that owned and operated a road construction company, logging business, and cattle farm. Twice he owned the National Grand Champion bull for the Santa Gertrudis cattle breed.
He was blessed with a large and loving family. He married his best friend, Wanda Jean, in 1981. Over the next 36 years he and Wanda enjoyed living on their farm, traveling across America, attending Razorback games, watching their purple martins, and more than anything each other’s company.
JL is survived by his wife, Wanda; his sons Hal and wife Regina, Lane and wife Judy; step-son Larry Jones and wife Lisa; his step daughters Gayle Elmore and husband Freddy, and Juanice Young; his grandsons Cale Jean and wife Lyndi, Ty Jean and wife Amanda, Seth Jean and wife Meagan, Grayson Jean and wife Amanda, step-grandsons Shane Elmore, Bert Jones, and Blake Jones; his step-granddaughter Calli Young; his great-grandchildren Rhett Jean, Farrah Jean, McKamie Jean, Abel Jean, and Ivah Jean and step-grandson Chase Wood; and numerous nieces and nephews. JL Jean was the last surviving child of Walker and Lena Jean, And was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Clarence Jean, sisters, Francille Walker and Elizabeth Gaines, and first wife Kitty Reeves Jean.
A memorial service will be held at Central Baptist Church in Magnolia at 2 p.m. Friday, November 3, 2017 with Dr. Mike Seabaugh officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Cale Jean, Ty Jean, Seth Jean, Grayson Jean, Shane Elmore, Winston Walker, Rolle Walker and Brandon Gaines
