When Amanda Josephine Hughes was born on November 6, 1866, her father, Benjamin, was 24, and her mother, Elizabeth, was 22. She married Charles Isaac Atwater in 1884 in Faulkner, Arkansas. They had four children during their marriage. She died on July 7, 1952, in North Little Rock, Arkansas, at the age of 85, and was buried in Mayflower, Arkansas.
