HINDSVILLE — John Allen "Sonny" Kirkland Sr., 75, of Hindsville died March 30, 2009, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Fayetteville. He was born Dec. 31, 1933, in Marcella to Robert Allen and Sarah Olevia Sherrill Kirkland.

Mr. Kirkland served in the Army, and then worked in the trucking industry, retiring from J.B. Hunt Transport. He was a member of Faith Assembly of God in Springdale. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family, and will be remembered for his great sense of humor.

His sister, Linda Kay Hicks, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Roberta Ella (Jenner) Kirkland of the home; four children, John Allen Kirkland Jr. and wife Dawn of Springdale, Brenda Kay Watson and husband Donnie of Hindsville, David Keith Kirkland and wife Jenifer of Springdale, Christina Vonne Mahan and husband Lee of Batesville; six brothers, Dean Kirkland and Ronald Kirkland, both of Louisiana, Robert Kirkland of Tennessee, Donald Kirkland and Timmy Kirkland, both of Mississippi, and Tommy Kirkland of Thumann; eight sisters, Yvonne Halfacre of Jonesboro, Annie Timms of Missouri, Paulette Wilson, Patricia Bishop, Betty Jane Bishop, Peggy Hanna, Nancy Kirkland and Angie Floyd, all of Trumann; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Heritage Funeral Home in Springdale. The family will be present. To sign the online guestbook, go to www.heritageofnwa.com.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 4, at Faith Assembly of God in Springdale with Pastors Billy Burks and Jon Davis officiating. Interment will be at Friendship Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Lee Mahan, Lee Watson, Shane Kirkland, Travis Kirkland, Brent Kirkland and Rocky Watson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Greenlee and Ernie Greenlee.

SPRINGDALE — Roberta Ella Kirkland, 78, of Springdale, died Saturday, June 3, 2017. She was born April 8, 1939, in Balch, Ark., to William Edward "Buck" and Cora Ann (Milam) Jenner.

Roberta had the heart of a servant. She enjoyed cooking and keeping her home tidy. She was devoted to her family and loved doting on her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Allen "Sonny" Kirkland, Sr. in 2009, and by three brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by four children, John Allen Kirkland Jr. and wife Dawn of Springdale, Brenda Watson and husband Donnie of Hindsville, David Kirkland and wife Crystal of Springdale, Kristina Parr and husband Mike of Batesville; one brother, Therlo Jenner of Michigan City, Ind.; three sisters, Geraldine Vyzcindiak of Forrest City, Ernestine Taylor of Yorktown, Ind., Carolyn Jenner of Michigan City, Ind.; 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, at Faith Assembly of God Church. Interment will be at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Heritage Funeral Home, online guestbook at www.heritageofnwa.com.
