When Parnetha Jane Hargis was born on June 15, 1836, in Claiborne, Louisiana, her father, William, was 28, and her mother, Charlotte, was 24. She married Asa James Thompson on April 9, 1856, in her hometown. They had four children during their marriage. She died in 1916 in Wooster, Arkansas, having lived a long life of 80 years, and was buried in Greenbrier, Arkansas.
