BRANSON, Mo. - Kenneth Orval Higgs, age 88, died on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018, at his home. He was born Sept. 19, 1930, in Port Arthur, Texas, the son of Alton A. and Mildred Farmer Higgs.
Kenneth grew up in Port Arthur, El Paso, Texas, and Greenland, Ark. He graduated from Greenland High School. Kenneth was a Korean War veteran. Following two years in the service, he moved to Port Arthur, Texas, where he began his employment with Texaco Research.
Kenneth married Billie Walling Weatherford in 1967. He retired from Texaco Research in 1985 and he and Billie moved to Branson, Mo., where they enjoyed their retirement years. In Branson, Kenneth was very active in Amateur Packet radio for all the years he was there. He taught packet classes and maintained a BBS.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Joyce Higgs of Bridge City, Texas; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Alice Higgs and Dixie Higgs and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Billie Walling Higgs; son, Larry Wayne Higgs; sister, Shirley Sikes; and two brothers, Bartley D. Higgs and Alton A. Higgs Jr.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018, at McCord Cemetery in Elkins, Ark. A visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Monday, Nov. 5, 2018, at Greenlawn Funeral Home in Branson.
