When James Goodman Thomas was born on January 22, 1862, in Georgia, his father, Alexander, was 27 and his mother, Mary, was 28. He married Sarah "Sallie" Ella Yancey on July 20, 1882, in Faulkner, Arkansas. They had nine children in 18 years. He died on June 27, 1950, in Conway, Arkansas, at the age of 88, and was buried in Greenbrier, Arkansas.
