When Alexander Covington Thomas was born on October 25, 1834, in Georgia, his father, Benjamin, was 27 and his mother, Jane, was 23. He married Mary Gertrude Hawkins and they had seven children together. He then married Lucy Jane Brown and they had three children together. He died on September 5, 1918, in Greenbrier, Arkansas, having lived a long life of 83 years.
