Son of William S Hamil and Manerva (Conyers) Hamil. He was born October 30, 1839 in Tennessee. In 1860 Robert L was 20 years of age and listed as a farmer in Haywood County Tennessee. He served in the Civil War as a Confederate Soldier in the Tennessee Infantry Company G, 47th Regiment. He met Lucinda Elizabeth, the daughter of Oscar and America McGavock and were married on April 20, 1862 also in Haywood County, Tennessee. Their union brought forth ten children and in 1870 were still living in Haywood, Tennessee but by 1880 they had moved to Izard County, Arkansas. At some point they moved to Clark, Greene County Ar where they were laid to rest in Clark Cemetery.
