September 20, 1885 - March 15, 1968
J. C. Smalley, a widely known former resident of Crawford county, died Friday, March 15, 1968 in a local nursing home. He was born September 20, 1885 at Mulberry, Arkansas, the son of John and Elizabeth Adams Smalley and was a lifelong resident of Crawford and Sebastian counties.
He was a member of Grand Avenue Baptist church and Van Buren Masonic Lodge No. 6, and had served as County Judge and County Clerk of Crawford county. He was state representative from Crawford county at one time and secretary to Tom Terral, former governor of Arkansas. He had taught school in Crawford county and had served as assistant director of the Conservation Inspection Department.
Survivors are his wife; four sons; a daughter; two sisters Jessie and Edna; and five grandchildren.
The funeral service was held in Edwards Funeral Home chapel Monday at 2;30 p.m. with Clifford Palmer, pastor of Grand Avenue Baptist church, officiating. Burial was in Alma City Cemetery.
