The Rev. Herman William Phillips, 76, of Alma died Friday, July 23, 1999 in a local nursing home. He was a retired furniture worker for Oklahomer Smith Furniture Company in Fort Smith, and a retired evangelist, having pastored at several area churches, including Revival Temple in Van Buren.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Alma Cemetery in Alma under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda; three daughters, Betty Smith and Lorene Phillips, both of Fort Smith, and Mildred Phillips of Searcy; three sons, Tommy Phillips and Robert Earel Phillips both of Fort Smith, and James Edward Phillips of Benton; five stepdaughters, Lucille Walls, Letha Shelton, Sally Bennett and Ella Butler, all of Alma, and Carolyn Butler of Graphic Community; a stepson, Jimmy Howe of Alma; a brother, Samuel Phillips of Benton; several grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.

Wanda Howe Phillips, 85, of Van Buren, AR, formerly of Alma, died Wednesday, December 30, 2009 in Fort Smith, AR. She was born April 17, 1924 in Alma, Arkansas. She was a line worker at Allen Canning Company in Alma, and she attended The Old Time Holiness Pentecostal Church in Fort Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Herman Phillips.

She is survived by three daughters, Letha Shelton, of Alma, AR, Sally Bennett of Van Buren, AR, and Lucille Walls of Alma, AR; two step-daughters, Josie Bennett of Van Buren, AR and Nancy Bennett of Van Buren, AR; one son, Jimmy Howe of Barling, AR; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 2, 2010 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Alma Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Chris Walls, Joe Burcham, Robert Howe, Eddie Bennett, Tommy Walls, and Wayne Walls.
