Returning Faulkner County Youth Was Almost in Sight of Home
Special to the Gazette

Conway, Aug 15 - Sam McMillen, age 27, son of Jeff McMillen of near Wooster, was fatally injured this morning when he fell beneath the wheels of a moving freight train at Gleason, six miles west of here, about 5 o'clock. Both legs were terribly mangled. He was brought to the Dickerson hospital here, but died about three hours later.
McMillen had been working in Oklahoma for the past year and was returning home, "beating" his way on the freight train. The train stopped at Gleason for water, and when it started again, the young man, who was sitting on the end of a coal car lost his balance and fell. His left leg was mangled from the hip down. His right leg was almost severed at the knee. Dr. C. H. Dickerson amputated both legs in an attempt to save McMillen's life, but he succumbed to loss of blood and the shock.
The body was remove to the J. A. Pence undertaking establishment and Jeff McMillen, father of McMillen, was notified. The body will be taken to Wooster for burial. He is survived by his parents, three brothers and five sisters, all of Wooster.
