When James Monroe Kitchens was born on September 7, 1886, in Arkansas, his father, James, was 30 and his mother, Martha, was 23. He married Ruth Wofford on December 29, 1915, in Greenbrier, Arkansas. They had one child during their marriage. He died on March 22, 1964, in Greenbrier, Arkansas, at the age of 77, and was buried in Bethlehem Cemetery.
