One of Alma's most prominent businessmen and civic leader died Thursday morning,
January 9, following a brief illness. Dead is Boyce F Wofford 52, longtime resident of Alma, Arkansas and a lifelong citizen of Crawford County. Mr Wofford headed the Alma firm which bore his name, The Boyce Wofford Company,
Inc. The corporation directors included Kenneth, John Paul and Carl Deck Teague. The firm recently had moved into the extensive growing and shipping of produce. He was born in Rudy, Arkansas and at an early age moved to Mountain- burg,Arkansas where he and his brother Ernest, began their business careers in the Wofford Brothers Trucking Company. The firm later became known as Boyce Wofford Company. In the early Forties the firm moved its operations to Alma and later was incorporated. At the time of his death Mr Wofford was Chief of the Alma Volunteer Fire Department. He had served on the department nearly 20 years. He also had been a member of the Alma City Council. Survivors include his wife, Ann ; sons Boyce, Jr, Dick and Tom, all of the home; brothers, Claude S and Euell T of Van Buren, Arkansas and Ernest of Phoenix, Arizona; sisters, Mrs Marvin Graham of Van Buren, Mrs
Ivan Moon of Alma and Mrs Elmer Seifert of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Active pallbearers were Don Newton, Darrell Newton, Alvin Pinkerton, Harmon Yakely, Jr, Jimmy Don Gooch, Don Dean, Leonard Kibler and Charlie Simco. Honary pallbearers are Charlie Starbird, W H Cole, Drennon Byars, Roy Bolling,
Johnnu Mack Meadors, T J Bradley, W E Poe, Charlie Reves, Jim Snoddy, A M Salyars, Vernon Humphrey and W B Byars.
