SELIGMAN, Mo. — James Leroy Bottorff, 78, of Seligman, Mo., died Saturday, March 26, at his home. He was born Oct. 30, 1932, at St. Paul, Minn., to Orval Benson Bottorff and Edith June Stein Bottorff. He was a member of the school safety patrol in St. Paul during 1446-47.

He was a retired staff sergeant in the US. Air Force, where he was a mail clerk, serving in Japan, Korea, made two secret missions to Vietnam, and received the Air Force Commendation Medal. He was a drug abuse program director in California; worked for Banton Funeral Home in South Dakota as a mortician, ambulance driver and floral designer.

He was a presidential aide to Richard Nixon and served in the Congress of the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, D.C. He worked for the Johnson, Ark., Police Department and Washington County Sheriffs Office. He was a law enforcement office for the city of Seligman, Mo., mayor pro tern, museum curator, alderman, and worked in the emergency management office. He had several pawn shops, gun shops, flea markets and auctions in the area, and was a member of the Rogers American Legion Post #100.

He was a Lutheran and is preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, James Leroy Buttorff Jr.: and one sister, Patricia Parks.

Survivors are his wife, Beverly, who he married Dec. 2, 1992, of the home; three sons, Allen Bottorff of Middleton, Wis., Mark Bottorff of Jamestown, Calif., and Ty Bottorff of Rogers, Ark,; five daughters, Mary Lee of Fayetteville, Ark., Kim Hoagland of Goodman, Mo., Sherry Gideon of Anderson, Mo., Becky Flesner of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and Carey O'Brien of Pineville, Mo.; one brother, Dean Bottorff of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 19 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Cremation arrangements are by Sisco Funeral Home of Pea Ridge. A memorial service is set for Thursday, March 31, at 5 p.m. at Sisco Funeral Home Chapel in Pea Ridge, with full military honors by Rogers American Legion Post #100.
