Gus David or Gus Dale Mabry husband of Virgie Lee (Slayden) Mabry. Virgie Lee (Slayden) Mabry daughter of John Albert Slayden and Irene (Fowler) Slayden.


Mrs. Virgie Mabry, 99, 0f Cord died Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Newport. She was born February 27, 1913 at Cord, the daughter of John Albert and Irene (Fowler) Slayden.

Mrs. Mabry was a homemaker, and a member of the Cord Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and gardening.

Mrs. Mabry was preceded in death by her husband, Gus David Mabry; one brother, Joseph Daniel Slayden; three sisters, Joyce Slayden Gipson, Gaynell Slayden Gipson, and Katherine Slayden Foote; three nephews, Gene Gipson, Dan Slayden, Jr., and Guy Junior Gipson; and her parents.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, as well as several great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Friday at Cord Baptist Church with interment in Hopewell Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, 10:00 a.m. until service.

Arrangements by Jackson’s Newark Funeral Home.
