Louis Wasman was called to Avoca Sunday by the death of his mother, Mrs. Mandy Wasman, who died Saturday aged seventy-three years and six months. Besides her aged companion she leaves several children and other relatives. Mrs. Wasman was born in Tennessee but lived at Pea Ridge since before the war, being there when the battle of Pea Ridge was fought. All sympathize with our townsman in his loss.

(from The Pea Ridge Pod) Mrs. Carl Wassman, who died about July 23rd at her home at Avoca, had a little friend in a mocking bird which built its nest each year in her yard. She was in the habit of feeding it and calling it her bird. This bird was a sweet singer but it was never known to sing at night until the night Mrs. Wassman lay a corpse in the front room, when it flew to the window and sang the entire night.
