James "Morris" Reaves, 88, of Batesville, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2005 at White River Medical Center in Batesville.

Morris was born on April 4, 1917 in Cord, Arkansas and was the son of the late Kin Reaves and Jennie Morris Reaves. He was a member of the Oak Ridge Methodist Church in Cord and was on the Cord-Charlotte School Board for several years. He was a member of the Fox Hunter's Association and served on the Quorum Court. Morris was a retired farmer.

He is survived by his wife, Velma (Boultinghouse) Reaves of the home; one son, Morris Reaves, Jr. of Saffell ; four daughters, Virginia Austin of Newport, Ina West of Cord, Clara Nell Crews of Saffell and Linda Smith of Hoxie. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Anthony Crabtree, Renee Bell, Dwaine Cobb, Denise Cobb, Jackie Crews, Resa Bolin, Elizabeth Rolins and Laura Smith; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Other survivors include one brother, Kinwade Reaves of Kansas City, Kansas.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Clarise Dover, one infant sister and one grandson, John Robert Smith.

Pallbearers will be Down Wayne Anderson, Wayne Anderson, J.C. McMinn, Ronnie Melton, Bobby Hawkins and Curtis Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be V.H. "Dutch" Whitmire, Buster Melton Leburn Mobley, Dr. Tom Cummings, Dr. Patrick Hatfield and Jimmie Darling.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Oakridge Methodist Church in Cord with Reverend Larry Pounds officiating.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the Roller-Crouch Funeral Home.

Interment will be at the Hopewell Cemetery in Cord under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville. (870) 793-4161.

BATESVILLE — Velma Lee Reaves, 87, of Batesville died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, at Woodlawn Nursing Home.

She was born Monday, Dec. 27, 1920, at Newark, and was the daughter of Enos and Jennie Creasey Boultinghouse.

Velma had a special talent for spoiling her "grandchildren." To her family, she was a first-class granny. She loved to cook and she enjoyed having people come to her home so she could prepare their favorite meals. She was an excellent baker noted for her caramel pie and cherry pie. Homemade ice cream was always available at her home for family and guests who would come to visit.

Velma's family and grandchildren were the most important thing to her and she will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ at Newark.

Velma is survived by her son, Morris Reaves Jr. and his wife Jane of Saffell; daughters, Virginia Austin and her husband Jack of Newport, Ina West of Cord, Clara Nell Crews of Saffell and Linda Smith of Batesville; and brother, Willie Boultinghouse of North Little Rock. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Morris Reaves Sr.; grandson, John Robert Smith; and two sons-in-law, Henry Ray Crews and Von West.

Pallbearers are Don Wayne Anderson, Wayne Anderson, Harry Bell, Jerry Brewer, Chuck Osborne and Murvlee Crigler.

Honorary pallbearers are Jimmie Darling, J.C. McMinn and Curtis Smith.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Cord Methodist Church with her nephew, Tommy Kidd, officiating, assisted by Stanley VanDergrift. Burial will follow the service in Hopewell Cemetery at Cord under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 tonight in the funeral home.
