When Thomas J. McHan was born in October 1852 in Alabama, his father, A., was 23 and his mother, Sarah, was 23. He married Margaret A. Johnson on August 1, 1875, in Ashley, Arkansas. They had seven children in 21 years. He died on July 3, 1928, in Lincoln, Arkansas, at the age of 75, and was buried in Gould, Arkansas.
