When Thomas Hendrix Cross was born on September 26, 1899, in Dumas City, Arkansas, his father, Charles, was 42 and his mother, Sallie, was 25. He married Maggie Orlean Chambers on March 20, 1924. He died on May 2, 1992, in his hometown at the age of 92.
